Established in 2019 by the WA State Legislature, the CDCPDA works hand-in-hand with residents, businesses, and local organizations to shape a vibrant future for the Central District while honoring its past. Through innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and community-driven initiatives, we strive to create a thriving neighborhood that benefits all who call it home. Our multipurpose facility offers spaces for learning, working, and celebrating, serving as a hub for community growth and connection. Join us in building a strong, inclusive, and prosperous Central District for generations to come.
Historically, African Americans and underserved urban communities have fought to overcome policies of discrimination, economic and social injustices. The Central District Community Preservation & Development Authority (CDCPDA) seeks to not only revitalize the historic Seattle Vocational Institute (SVI)/Seattle Opportunities Industrialization Center (SOIC) but to also maintain its ownership within the Black community. The building itself has long been an integral part of vocational training, employment and community advancement since 1974. The CDCPDA is on a progressional pathway to restoring and uplifting the community through a 21st Century lens into the infinite possibilities of what this "beacon in community" will become. We call upon the community to help us in continuing this work to full restoration of our beloved facility which is now known as the McKinney Center for Community & Economic Development (MCCED).
